Architectours 2006. Passionate Encounters with Montreal’s Heritage

(PDF file)

For immediate release

July 13, 2006 - Héritage Montréal launches Architectours 2006. From July 29th to October 15th, the public will have the opportunity to join guided walking tours to discover Montreal’s rich heritage. Walks are presented every Saturday and Sunday, rain or shine, in English and in French, and are two hours long. Reservations are not necessary, and tickets go on sale at the departure point, 15 minutes prior to the indicated time. Admission fees are $10 for members of Héritage Montréal and $12 for others.

Inaugurated in 1988, Architectours present the history, architecture and development of districts and sites of the island of Montreal. Led by knowledgeable and passionate guides, the tours are for everyone with an interest in urban heritage. The 2006 edition has three principal themes: The 1st World Outgames Montreal 2006, Urban Landscapes of Montreal, and The Montreal Metro at 40. In the context of these three themes, 13 original walks are offered, including The First Village: In the Shadow of the Skyscrapers, The Art Déco of Édouard-Montpetit Boulevard, The Rhythm of the Olympics, and The Underground Creativity of the 1980s.

To obtain a copy of the Architectours 2006 schedule and for more information about the program and departure points, call (514) 286-2662 or go to www.heritagemontreal.qc.ca. Héritage Montréal is again offering tour participants the chance to enter a contest to win prizes that will allow them to expand their knowledge of the city and its treasures.

L’édition 2006 des Architectours a bénéficié du soutien financier de l’Entente sur le développement culturel de Montréal intervenue entre la Ville de Montréal et le ministère de la Culture et des Communications du Québec.

For 30 years, Héritage Montréal has worked to promote and protect the architectural, historic, natural and cultural heritage of Greater Montreal, its neighbourhoods and communities. We are a private non-profit organization at the heart of an extensive network of partners, working though education and representation to celebrate, develop and preserve Montreal’s identity and uniqueness.
