Montreal, July 08, 2008 – Heritage Montreal is very pleased to announce the presentation of the Prix Thomas-Baillairgé of the Ordre des architectes du Québec (OAQ) to Dinu Bumbaru, policy director of Heritage Montreal. This annual award, created in 1983 in memory of one of the most eminent Quebec architects of the 19th century, was presented to Mr. Bumbaru in recognition of his contribution to the conservation and improvement of Quebec’s living environment.

Mr. Bumbaru received this award during the recent annual general meeting of the OAQ held in Quebec City on June 13th. André Bourassa, president of the professional order, cited Mr. Bumbaru’s remarkable commitment as policy director of Heritage Montreal as well as his contribution to various committees and organizations, including Les Amis de la Montagne, Culture Montreal, and the Fédération des sociétés d’histoire du Québec. He also mentioned Mr. Bumbaru’s role at the international level as Secretary General of the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS), a non-governmental organization active in more than 120 countries that advises UNESCO on issues of cultural heritage.

Robert Turgeon, president of Heritage Montreal, welcomed this recognition, explaining that, “for twenty-five years, Dinu Bumbaru has worked tirelessly at Heritage Montreal for the protection and enhancement of Montreal’s heritage. His accomplishments have earned him great respect from stakeholders in the field of heritage preservation, as witnessed by this award from the Ordre des architectes du Québec. At Heritage Montreal, we are proud to work alongside this man, whose expertise is world renowned.”

Mr. Bumbaru was also delighted by this tribute to his accomplishments: “My entire career has been devoted to the cause of urban and architectural heritage, which I have been promoting and defending with the same enthusiasm for almost thirty years.
