Home Work! Héritage Montréal - Home Renovation and Restoration Courses

(PDF file)

For immediate release

February 24, 2006 – Today Héritage Montréal launched the 2006 edition of its home renovation and restoration courses, aimed at both current and future homeowners and anyone with an interest in our city’s built heritage. The seven conferences will be held in Montreal from March 21 to May 4, in French on Tuesdays at Collège de Maisonneuve, and in English on Thursdays at Dawson College, from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m.

These courses, presented by qualified architects and engineers, have already helped around 8,000 people to acquire the knowledge they need to manage their renovation projects in a way that preserves and enhances their homes’ architectural character. Participants come away with a better understanding of how to inspect, repair, maintain and renovate their homes. During the seven sessions they will look at the following themes:

- Montréal residential architecture through history;
- General home inspection;
- Renovation planning and administration;
- Foundations and structure;
- Exterior walls, roofs and insulation;
- Doors, windows and exterior woodwork;
- Mechanical and electrical systems.

The program also includes a visit to a renovation site, led by experts and the owner, to give participants concrete illustrations of what they have learned in the classroom.

The cost of the course is $215 for Héritage Montréal members and $275 for non-members. Those wishing to join when they sign up for the course will be entitled to a special rate of $265.
