Montreal, Thursday, July 12, 2007
Montreal, Thursday, July 12, 2007 – Héritage Montréal is very pleased to announce, in collaboration with the Montreal Heritage Network and its partners, that its Montreal Heritage Calendar is going digital. The calendar, always an eagerly awaited sign of summer, will be more flexible and accessible than ever. Thanks to new computerized quarterly updates, this valuable tool will now be available all year long, on the montrealheritagecalendar.com Website. In the past the calendar was limited to 75,000 print copies, but no more! Now anyone with Internet access can consult it.

It’s packed with information on tours, entertainment, lectures, concerts, and traditional dance and music – a multitude of attractions that will let Montrealers and tourists alike explore the different neighbourhoods in Greater Montreal. The calendar, an essential reference for planning social outings, is a reflection of the many different heritage networks involved and all their enthusiasm. Right from the start, it will list over 200 events put on by some sixty organizations.

“With today’s emphasis on new technologies and sustainable development, this very first digital edition of the Montreal Heritage Calendar is sure to enhance what is already a great way of combining fun and cultural discoveries. The new electronic formula will make it easy for people to regularly check out the wonderful array of heritage activities on offer. More than ever before, everyone will be able to understand and appreciate the historic, architectural, archaeological, ecological and landscape heritage of Greater Montreal,” says Robert Turgeon, President of Héritage Montréal.

The on-line version of the Montreal Heritage Calendar was made possible by the Programme de soutien à la diffusion du patrimoine montréalais under the Entente sur le développement culturel de Montréal between the Ministère de la Culture, des Communications et de la Condition féminine du Québec and the Ville de Montreal. The project is the fruit of a partnership between Héritage Montréal, the Société du patrimoine d’expression du Québec and the Association québécoise pour le patrimoine industriel, on behalf of the Montreal Heritage Network. Other partners, including Tourisme Montréal, Tourisme Québec and more than sixty organizations, also helped produce this unique, vital tool.

Since 1975, Héritage Montréal has been working through education and advocacy to promote, showcase and safeguard the architectural, historical, archaeological, landscape and natural heritage that contributes to the quality and unique personality of our city.

The Montreal Heritage Network is the voice for nearly 200 heritage conservation and development organizations in Greater Montreal.
