Since 2012, Urban Sketchers Montréal (USK Montréal) has brought together beginner and experienced sketchers, professionals and amateurs, occasional and dedicated participants, all with a wide variety of styles. Through drawing, they document everyday life in the Greater Montréal area. USK Montréal is part of an international collective whose motto is “Showing the world, one drawing at a time.” The idea behind the movement is simple: to sketch urban surroundings on location, alongside other sketchers, in a spirit of sharing and encouragement—two essential principles of its founding manifesto.
Héritage Montréal is a non-profit organization that has worked for 50 years to protect and highlight the places, buildings, landscapes and stories that give Montréal its unique character. Through awareness-building, public engagement, expertise and advocacy, it brings together citizens, specialists, decision-makers and partners to ensure that heritage is recognized, passed on and integrated into the city’s development. Come meet the team! Members of Héritage Montréal will be present throughout the day to speak with you about heritage and document the sketches created.
To mark the 150th anniversary of Mount Royal Park, Urban Sketchers Montréal and Héritage Montréal, in collaboration with the City of Montréal, invite the public to celebrate the mountain through drawing. Bring your sketchbooks, pencils, pens or watercolours, spend the day sketching, and at the end of the day discover the drawings created by all participants.
