Since 2020, the Next Generation Committee has provided a platform for a local artist to illustrate their unique perspective on Montreal’s heritage. Created exclusively for Héritage Montréal, this poster is part of the organization’s awareness mission.
“ For Héritage Montréal’s 50th anniversary, this illustration brings the city’s past, present and future into dialogue. Two characters appear: one embodies the next generation, observing and drawing inspiration from the actions carried out by Héritage Montréal, while the other represents the pioneers, those who worked in the past to protect the city and who continue to watch over it.
I included places that have marked me since childhood, along with my mother’s memories when she arrived in the 1980s: the lively alleyways, the churches, the beauty of winter and the Main (Saint-Laurent), raw, chaotic and full of mystery.
Visually, I drew inspiration from tarot cards and stained glass, blending heritage and modernity through a geometric treatment. The illustration pays tribute to what we have inherited, to what we observe today, and to what we will choose to protect for future generations.”
